Removal of benign skin growths

Most people experience the appearance of several skin growths during their lifetime.

There are various reasons for their existence. Heredity is an important factor. Excessive prolonged exposure to the sun or solariums also has an impact.

Before removal, they must be examined by a specialist, who is familiar with skin growths and will set a diagnosis.

Potentially dangerous growths, such as melanocytic pigment marks, must be surgically removed and subject to histological analysis. Most skin growths (such as fibroma and age spots) do not represent a health hazard and can be removed by other methods, such as scraping the surface of the skin. In this case, stitches are not required; the healing process last as long as with ordinary scratches.

Important:

Removal of benign skin flaws (e.g. tiny blood vessels on the face and legs, sun spots, growths on the neck, face and scalp – i.e. fibroma, senile haemangioma and other aesthetically annoying growths) is not among services covered by the compulsory health insurance, except in the event that malignancy or potential thereof is suspected. (Item 1 of Article 25 of Compulsory health insurance rules, Official Gazette RS, no. 30/03)
