History of the health spaThe 17th century story of the origin of the Rogaška hot springs states that Apollo, the god of the sun and healing, created a winged horse, the Pegasus, when he wanted to fly to the mountain of Parnas, by saying these words: "Do not fly to sinful Parnas!" It is a place where everything is fake and the people are shallow. The place you are standing at is the source of health and God's true power. Instead of Hippocrene, drink Roitschocrene, the well of Rogaška, which is before you!"
The miraculous power of Rogaška mineral water was first analysed by alchemists back in 1572.
When Count Peter Zrinski was cured after drinking the Rogaška water in the 17th century, doctors became so fascinated that they began examining the therapeutic effects of the water in greater detail. Rogaška soon began to fill up and in the early 19th century, a modern health institution was created and named the Rogaška Slatina Health Spa.
In its golden age, the Rogaška Health Spa hosted visits by members of imperial families (Habsburg, Bonaparte, Hohenzollern, Bourbon, Obrenović, Karađorđević and others), members of high nobility (Esterhazy, Turn und Taxis, Della Grazia, Furstenberg, Windischgraetz, Liechtenstein) and many other important guests, among them Bishop Strossmayer, the great English traveller Richard Burton, the writer Berta von Suttner and others.
People discovered the healing powers of the natural springs of Rogaška and came again and again to fill their bodies and spirits with the rich sense of health, power and relaxed atmosphere. This tradition is still carried on by the Rogaška Health Spa today.
