We have vast experience in the field of gastroenterology and for many years the Rogaška Medical Centre has been among the most esteemed centres in Slovenia.

Specialists in internal medicine – gastroenterology perform specialist examinations and consultations, and preventive examinations. They are known for the holistic treatment of patients, which is successfully carried out in cooperation with other departments.

Leading fields of work include diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures:

  • endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract – gastroscopy is used to detect and treat severe changes in the stomach, oesophagus and duodenum;
  • endoscopy of the lower gastrointestinal system or colonoscopy with ileoscopy is an examination of the entire colon and last part of the small intestine. In this way, experienced professionals can carefully monitor the mucosa with state-of-the-art equipment and take samples for further investigation. If any polyps in the colon are detected, which can represent precancerous changes, they can be immediately removed without pain;
  • endoscopic ultrasound is an examination for a more detailed analysis of the changes in the wall of the digestive tract and in its surroundings, and for a detailed examination of the pancreas and bile duct.

Additional information

The planned endoscopic examination in our centre can now also be performed in SEDATION. You can choose between two different options. 

  • Examination in analgosedation means that you will be given medication before the procedure, which will calm you down, reduce any pain, and make the examination easier for you. 
  • For those who would like to “sleep through” the process, endoscopy in deep sedation with propofol is possible. This involves an extra doctor, a specialist anesthetist.

She is in the top among Slovenian endoscopists with regard to the number of annually performed endoscopic tests. After her degree, she completed her theoretical and practical trainings in the field of endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound diagnostics. She has been continuing her studies in the field of clinical nutrition and diet therapy, and takes part in nutrition consultation.

Željko Perdija, M.D., Assistant, after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, acquired his licence and completed his post-graduate studies on ultrasound use in gastroenterology and hepatology in Zagreb, he specialized in internal medicine, passed all exams at the doctoral study programme at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, a theoretical and practical test in flexible bronchoscopy and additional training at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana on digestive endoscopy. He has completed an intensive four week e-education program Concepts of Cannabis Science I, carried out by Kenevir Research (Oregon, USA), and also follow-up program Concepts of Cannabis Science II. He is a member of the Governing Board and expert associate of the Institute (ICANNA). As a provider of medical examinations, he participates in the national program for early colorectal cancer detection, SVIT. He obtained habilitation as an assistant at the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor and gained experience as a lecturer by teaching at the the Medical School in Maribor. He acquired his clinical experience at the University Medical Centre Maribor, University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik, General Hospital Ptuj and with his work for health care centres.
